Penn State University Article

The team just came across an excellent article written by Professor Matthew Woessner of Penn State University that details the specific issues he’s had in working with the electricity service company he chose to switch to after deregulation. While he knew that he had signed up for a variable rate plan, he was shocked to see his rate more than double during one particular month, jumping from a 7.4 cent per kWh rate to 16.3 cents per kWh without warning.

He posits several regulatory solutions that would mandate electricity service companies provide better information to consumers, showing real costs and fluctuations over time. This type of system could certainly benefit customers if legislators were willing to implement it.
